In 2026, the University Center for French Studies (CUEF) atUniversité Grenoble Alpes 130 years of history, educational innovation, and international influence. To mark the occasion, an exhibition will be held at the Law and Literature University Library atUniversité Grenoble Alpes from April 2 to May 11.

Over a century of commitment to teaching French as a foreign language and welcoming international students

A pioneering center for French as a Foreign Language (FLE) in France, the CUEF has trained generations of learners from five continents. A true educational laboratory, it has contributed to the evolution of FLE teaching practices and affirmed Grenoble's place in the history of the spread of French throughout the world.

This exhibition celebrates 130 years of commitment to international openness, educational innovation, and discovery of the region, values that continue to drive the CUEF today.

A journey through time to the heart of Grenoble's university history

The exhibition traces the history of CUEF from its origins in 1896, with the creation of the Comité de patronage des étudiants étrangers (CPEE), to its current development. Through rich and sometimes little-known archives, historical documents, photographs, objects, and educational materials, it reveals an adventure deeply rooted in Grenoble's heritage.

Whether you are a student, university staff member, CUEF alumnus, history enthusiast, or simply curious to discover what goes on behind the scenes of teaching French to international audiences, this exhibition is a rare opportunity to delve into more than a century of archives.
