The DUEF (B1, B2, C1, C2) is a comprehensive program combining language and subject courses. It supports students in their academic career and prepares them for a recognized university diploma (DU)*.
Cultural activities complete the itinerary, immersing you in the French language and culture.
* The DUEF gives access to higher education at UGA and most French universities from the Licence 2 level upwards.

Objectives
- Develop written and oral communication skills to acquire linguistic fluency in real-life situations
- Acquire basic knowledge of French culture and society
- Developing university knowledge and know-how
- Prepare for the DUEF exams (including presentation of a dossier of cultural knowledge in C1/C2)
Terms and conditions
- 18 hours of classes per week over 12 weeks, for a total of 216 hours (exams not included)
- 1 week (semester 1) or 2 weeks (semester 2) of class suspension
- 1 week (DUEF B1 and B2) or 2 weeks of final exams (DUEF C1 and C2)
The program includes three types of classes (Monday through Thursday):
Morning :
Language and skills courses (B2 level and above): 10 hours per week
Afternoon:
Language reinforcement classes: 2 hours per week
Subject-specific classes: 6 hours per week
As part of the major courses (3), students choose their 3 electives from among the CUEF major courses and the ETCs offered by UGA based on their level:
For B1:

One (or more in C1/C2) Interdisciplinary ETC (s) (ETCI***) to be chosen from UGA’s extensive course catalog.

Public and access conditions
This program is designed for international students on exchange programs, those applying to enroll in a French university, or simply expats living in Grenoble.
To be eligible, you must:
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
- Have achieved an A2 level (minimum B1 required) in French.
Group assignment
When you first register, you take an online placement test, which enables us to assign you to a group suited to your level. This test can be supplemented by an oral interview (in person or by zoom). The first two days of the course are devoted to activities to help you fine-tune your level groups.
