In 2026, the University Center for French Studies (CUEF) atUniversité Grenoble Alpes 130 years of history, educational innovation, and international influence.
To mark the occasion, an exhibition will be on display at the University Library of Law and Humanities atUniversité Grenoble Alpes from April 2 to May 11.

Over a century of commitment to teaching French as a foreign language and welcoming international students

A pioneering center for French as a Foreign Language (FLE) in France, the CUEF has trained generations of learners from five continents. A true educational laboratory, it has contributed to the evolution of FLE teaching practices and affirmed Grenoble's place in the history of the spread of French throughout the world.

This exhibition celebrates 130 years of commitment to international openness, educational innovation, and discovery of the region, values that continue to drive the CUEF today.

A journey through time to the heart of Grenoble's university history

The exhibition traces the history of the CUEF from its origins in 1896, with the creation of the Comité de patronage des étudiants étrangers (CPEE), to its current state. Through a wealth of often-overlooked archival materials, historical documents, photographs, artifacts, and educational resources, it reveals a journey deeply rooted in Grenoble’s heritage.

Whether you’re a student, a member of the university staff, a CUEF alumnus or alumna, a history enthusiast, or simply curious to get a behind-the-scenes look at teaching French to international audiences, this exhibition offers a rare opportunity to delve into over a century of archives.
