The French language and civilization course is aimed at students who wish not only to improve their command of the French language, but also to discover and deepen their knowledge of French society and culture.

Objectives
Develop your language skills and deepen your knowledge of French culture
Course organization
4 weeks from June 29 to July 24, 2026 (no classes on July 13 and 14)
72 hours of classes: 4 hours/day from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (2 hours of language classes + 2 hours of themed workshops)
Educational objectives :
- Introduce students to French and French-speaking artists, placing the works and their authors in their historical, artistic and cultural context.
- Acquire the linguistic skills needed to describe a work of art and express feelings and opinions about it. Description:
The course will focus on oral expression and work in small groups.
The analysis and interpretation of works of art are carried out collectively with the teacher and the class through the activities proposed.
Preparation may be required before or after certain sessions.
Individual creative work may be exhibited at the CUEF.
Most of the works will be presented in the course booklet and on a Padlet. Evaluation
Assessment will be based on participation in the course, collective work and a short final test.
Week 2: Reading and writing workshop to discover contemporary literature Sophie Régnat

Teaching objectives:
- Introduce students to contemporary French-language literature through the reading of short stories.
- Encourage the appropriation of texts through personal reading and writing activities. Description :
This workshop introduces students to some of today's authors through the reading of short stories and poetry. Reading and analysis activities will alternate with writing proposals based on or preceding the texts read.
Participants will be asked to read or reread the works studied, and to present a short story or poem, either orally or in writing. Evaluation
- A piece of writing produced in class.
- An oral or written presentation of a personal analysis of a text proposed by the teacher (short story or poem).
Week 3: France in revolt since 1789 Vincent Hardy

Teaching objectives :
- Acquire a few political and social landmarks in French history from 1789 to the present day.
- Understand how certain events have transformed French society
- Learn to study historical documents (images or texts) Description :
- Major events of the French Revolution (1789-1799)
- The 19th century, the century of revolutions (1830, 1848 and 1871)
- May 1968: the emergence of current moral, political and social values
- Current crises in peripheral France (2005 riots and 2018 Gilets jaunes) Assessment

Week 4: Discovering French cinema Xavier Espinosa

Educational objectives:
- Discover French cinema, its history, richness and variety.
- Acquire a few historical and artistic points of reference on its evolution and current situation.
- Explore the representation of the amorous encounter in contemporary cinema.
- Practice language skills through cinema, express emotions, give opinions and justify them.
- Produce a short film extract in French as a group.
- Give students a taste for French cinema and the desire to continue discovering it! Description :

Week 1: Discovery of Grenoble + Annecy Week 2: Petanque / Vercors Week 3: National holiday (July 14) /Vizille: visit to the château and the Museum of the Revolution. Week 4: International cuisine
Group assignment
When you first register, you take an online placement test which enables us to assign you to a group suited to your level.
This test can be supplemented by an oral interview (in person or by zoom).
Evaluation
Language courses: continuous assessment of 4 skills (oral and written comprehension, oral and written expression)
Thematic courses: assessment method specified in the course description
Certificate
At the end of the month, each student receives a certificate containing :
- Grade for each of the 4 skills + number of hours of attendance + grade for language course work
- Final grade for theme courses + number of hours of attendance
