Semester 2
Where do the heroes and heroines you love come from? From civilization and mythology, where myths reflect the beliefs, values, and aspirations of society. In this course, the study of civilization and mythology offers a perspective on human history, revealing the complexities of the human psyche, social dynamics, and cultural transformations. By exploring these concepts, we can gain a deeper understanding of how societies have developed, shaped their reality, and sought to give meaning to their existence.
The Civilization and Mythology course aims to deepen DUEF B1 students' knowledge of general culture in order to better understand contemporary French culture.
Culture and society
Semesters 1 and 2
The aim of this course is to enable students to understand current French society and the culture in which they are immersed during their stay in France.
A selection of themes (historical, geographical, sociological, cultural, etc.) will give them a better grasp of today's French reality. For example, we'll look at the evolution of the family in the 20th century, French gastronomy, the history of immigration to France, and so on.
The course is partly lecture-based, partly open to discussion and manipulation of concepts.
Grenoble, capital of the Alps
Semester 1
Why is Grenoble known as the capital of the Alps?
The answer to this question can be found in Grenoble's "identity card": its geographical location, Olympic city, green city, university and research city... But Grenoble's history also explains its place: from Cularo to the Resistance via the Revolution, many important moments have punctuated its history. Literature is not to be outdone: the mountains surrounding Grenoble have often inspired authors. History, mountains, and innovation: these are assets that tourism stakeholders have long relied on to enhance the city's appeal to tourists.
This course will cover all these aspects and enable students to discover and better understand their living environment.
Political life, instructions for use
Semester 2
This course offers B1-level students the keys to entering the world of French politics (developing knowledge/acquiring basic vocabulary) in order to understand how it works.
At the beginning of each class, time will be set aside for a section entitled "Testing my knowledge," which will allow students to review the concepts covered in the previous class and verify that they have acquired the information presented.
In addition, students are asked to keep up to date with French political news. Each class will include a short discussion on current political events in France entitled "What's new in the news?" To participate, read the newspapers, listen to the radio, and watch television.
Discovering French-language literary texts
Semesters 1 and 2
The aim of this course is to introduce students to texts (poetry and prose) from French-language literature. Sessions will be organized around oral exchanges, group work on texts and small creative writing sessions. This first contact with literary texts will be supported by visual documents (paintings or sculptures), videos or radio broadcasts.
B1 and B2 theater workshop
(Limited to 25 students)
Semesters 1 and 2
The aim of the workshop is to present a show at the end of the semester. It involves the student in a collective process of building an artistic project. This adventure enables each student to develop a multitude of skills:
- learning French differently,
- public speaking
- develop oral fluency,
- perfect their pronunciation of the French language,
- develop imagination and creativity
Sessions are built around various exercises: body warm-up, diction and oral expression exercises, followed by improvisations and work on the text.
The oral part of the course is assessed on participation and commitment to the course, progress and performance, and the written part on a logbook that accompanies the whole course.
Options are opened according to the number of students.
