6:00 p.m. - Lecture: “130 Years of French Language Instruction in Grenoble: The Internationalization of a University”
November 26, 2026
To mark the 130th anniversary of the University Center for French Studies (CUEF) in Grenoble, René Favier and Laura Abou Haidar will give a lecture based on their book *130 Years of French Language Instruction in Grenoble: The Internationalization of a University*, published by Presses universitaires de Grenoble.
Through the history of the CUEF, founded in 1896, the authors trace more than a century of commitment to teaching French as a foreign language and to the University of Grenoble’s international outreach. They highlight the key milestones of this human, educational, and institutional journey, marked by welcoming generations of students from around the world, innovation in language teaching, and Grenoble’s international influence. This event invites you to discover how the CUEF has contributed, for the past 130 years, to making Grenoble a place of exchange, diversity, and dialogue between cultures. It is also a special occasion to celebrate PUG, a small cooperative publishing house that has published this book and is marking 50 years of partnership with the fascinating world of French as a foreign language (FLE).
