The "Diplôme Universitaire d'Études Françaises" (DUEF), at levels B1, B2, C1, and C2, offers a comprehensive program combining language courses with disciplinary courses. It supports students in their academic journey and prepares them for a recognized university diploma (DU)*.
Cultural activities complement the program to immerse students in the French language and culture.
* The DUEF gives you the opportunity to apply for higher studies at UGA and most French universities from Licence 2.

Objectives:

  • Develop written and oral communication skills to gain linguistic fluency in real-life situations.
  • Acquire basic knowledge about French culture and society.
  • Develop academic knowledge and skills.
  • Prepare for the DUEF exams (including the presentation of a cultural knowledge portfolio at the C1/C2 level).

Program
As part of the disciplinary courses (3), students choose their 3 options from the CUEF disciplinary courses and the ETCs offered by UGA according to their level:

At B1 level: CUEF disciplinary courses (subject to availability): Literature, Grenoble Capital of the Alps, Culture and Society, Political Life, Civilization and Mythology, Theater Workshop.
One Language* or Sport** ETC

At B2, C1, C2 levels: CUEF disciplinary courses (subject to availability): Literature, Business World, History, Art History, Theater Workshop.
One Language or Sport ETC
One (or more at C1/C2 levels) Interdisciplinary ETC(s) (ETCI***) to be chosen from the wide UGA course catalog.

***The ETCIs cover various themes: Learning and the World of Education; Citizenship, Institutional Challenges, and Social Representations; Understanding of Sciences; Professional and Creative Projects and Innovation; Literary, Linguistic, and Media Issues; Climate, Environmental Transitions, and Sustainable Development.

Target Audience and Admission Requirements

This diploma is intended for students in international mobility, exchange semester students, candidates for enrollment in a French university, or individuals living abroad in Grenoble.
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum A2 level acquired.

Group Assignment

Upon your first registration, you will take an online placement test that allows us to assign you to a group appropriate to your level. This test may be supplemented by an oral interview (in person or via Zoom). The first two days of classes are dedicated to activities to refine the level groups.
