CUEFUniversity Centre for French Studies

The "Diplôme Universitaire d'Études Françaises" (DUEF), at levels B1, B2, C1, and C2, offers a comprehensive program combining language courses with disciplinary courses. It supports students in their academic journey and prepares them for a recognized university diploma (DU)*.
Cultural activities complement the program to immerse students in the French language and culture.
*The DUEF provides the opportunity to apply for higher education studies at UGA and in most French universities.

Objectives:

• Develop written and oral communication skills to gain linguistic fluency in real-life situations.
• Acquire basic knowledge about French culture and society.
• Develop academic knowledge and skills.
• Prepare for the DUEF exams (including the presentation of a cultural knowledge portfolio at the C1/C2 level).

Modalities:

Options for B1 level: Literature, Grenoble Capital of the Alps, Culture and Society, Theatre, Political Life, Civilization and Mythology.
Options for B2/C1/C2 levels: Literature, Business World, History, Theatre, Art History, etc.

From B2 level onwards: possibility to choose an option from the wide range of courses offered by UGA.
Examples of Elective Courses (ETC): Gender Equality : Issues, Challenges, and Questioning of "Gender" Today; Stars and Planets; Media from Origins; Sociolinguistics - Discourse, Language, and Power; Thinking about the Ecological Crisis; Anthropocene + Planetary Boundaries; Environment and Health; the Universe;

Examination (intermediate and final) for the University Diploma: language courses / language reinforcement courses / disciplinary courses.

Target Audience and Admission Requirements

This diploma is intended for students in international mobility, exchange semester students, candidates for enrollment in a French university, or individuals living abroad in Grenoble.
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum A2 level acquired.
NB: an online placement test is conducted upon first registration to assign the student to the appropriate level group.

Group Assignment

Upon your first registration, you will take an online placement test that allows us to assign you to a group appropriate to your level. This test may be supplemented by an oral interview (in person or via Zoom). The first two days of classes are dedicated to activities to refine the level groups.
