Richard von Weizsäcker

Richard Karl Freiherr von Weizsäcker, a German statesman, was born on 15 April 1920 in Stuttgart and died on 31 January 2015 in Berlin.
The majority of his childhood was spent abroad. At 17 years old, he went to study philosophy and history at Oxford in England, then continued his studies in France, in particular at the Grenoble CUEF.
In 1984, he stood for the Presidential election and was elected during the first round with an overwhelming majority. He was re-elected unanimously in 1989.
He was a popular and respected President.
