Roghan, a student in the "International Classes" program between France and India

At the CUEF in Grenoble, the year 2024 welcomes a new generation of international students, including Roghan, an 18-year-old from Coimbatore, a vibrant city in southern India. He is among the first to join the "International Classes" program at the University, initiated last year during Emmanuel Macron's official visit to India. This innovative program aims to strengthen educational ties between the two countries by offering Indian students a unique opportunity to study in France.

A determined journey

Roghan discovered the program while browsing the web, and, captivated by the opportunity to study in France, he decided to embark on the adventure on his own. Last March, he independently prepared and submitted his application, an impressive feat for someone so young. After successfully passing interviews with the CUEF and the Department of Undergraduate Sciences and Technologies (DLST), he was accepted. "It was a demanding process, but I really wanted to seize this opportunity, and the teams in France were very supportive," he explains.

Smooth integration thanks to the Buddy sponsorship program

Since his arrival in France on September 4th, Roghan has quickly adapted to his new environment. He joined the "Buddy" sponsorship program at the University of Grenoble Alpes (UGA), where he was paired with Isis, a French student in her first year of Psychology. She helps him with administrative tasks and assists him in practicing French on a daily basis. "It’s very helpful for improving my speaking skills and understanding the French university system," he says.

Exploring Grenoble and first impressions

Outside of his classes, Roghan takes advantage of his free time to explore the surroundings of Grenoble. He has already visited iconic places such as the Bastille and Vizille, and he hopes to visit Paris soon. "Grenoble is very different from my city in India, in terms of architecture, environment, and lifestyle. Here, everything is calmer and greener, and the mountains surrounding the city fascinate me." Roghan is eagerly awaiting winter: he has never seen snow and is excited to experience this for the first time.

A future in astrophysics

Having scored an impressive 96% on his high school exams last year (in French, English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science), Roghan aspires to work in astrophysics in the future. After spending a year at the CUEF to improve his French (with the goal of reaching B2 level by May), he will join the first year of his undergraduate program at the DLST in 2025 and continue his scientific studies.

Independent, mature, and highly motivated, Roghan is already showing great adaptability. The CUEF is delighted to welcome and support him on this promising journey.
